about
This time I wanted to celebrate strong-willed women.
The first one being undoubtedly my mum :)
But my first thought for the song was of Rosa Parks who was a famous civil rights activist in the US. A woman who, because she didn't back down, changed the story. And being French, our very own Simone Veil, amongst other French women, was also an inspiration to me.
I wrote the song from the point of view of an old lady telling her story and encouraging younger women to stand up for themselves.
It does resonate quite a lot in light of what has been happening in the US lately.
But there are so many remarkable and inspiring women out there, past and present, working hard to change things that I just wanted to write a song about them.
lyrics
Verse 1
My memories aren't so clear now
But I do remember the woman I once was
And dealing with the troubles of life
I do remember I could put up a fight
I was a dreamer and I played my part
I was a dancer and I rose above
With a simple plan
To right the wrong
Chorus
I believed altogether
We could sing that song
As a bold reminder
That we could all be strong
It was here, now or never
No one to wait for
That's how you make a change
When you're a warrior
That's how I made a change
I was a warrior
Verse 2
My hands aren't still, I'm kind of fragile now
But I do remember the strength that I once had
My legs are weak, my words are hard to find
But I do remember I could stand and shout
I wanted answers and would not bow
I was a good girl with a fearless mind
And a simple plan,
To right the wrong
Chorus (x1)
Bridge
March on like sisters
As an ode to the ones gone
With your head up and your words to reason
March on my sisters
So your work can live on
Keep your head up,
You're not alone
Keep your head up,
You're not alone
'Cause you are dreamers, you can play your part
Yeah, you are dancers, you can rise above
With a simple plan
To right the wrong
Chorus
And believed altogether
You could sing that song
As a bold reminder
That you could all be strong
It's here, now or never
No one to wait for
That's how you make a change
When you're a warrior
That's how you'll make a change
Cause you are warriors
That's how you'll make a change
Cause you're all warriors
That's how we'll make a change
Cause we are warriors
