about
The past couple of months have been pretty exhausting.
Doubt, uncertainties and too much self-criticism had taken a front row seat in my life leaving me wondering and wandering quite a lot.
But about a month ago I decided to do what (I think) I do best. I put my thoughts down on paper and slowly these words became lyrics. I then dusted off my recording gear, composed some music and shaped a song. I already had some sort of a melody and a chord progression in my head and also buried in some old sound files on my computer. So I worked around it and created “The Fall”. This song is a good depiction of my mindset at the time, during that particular season. But also an important and gentle reminder to always “give myself a little grace”, like a dear friend of mine told me.
So the song closes 2019 but sets 2020 as a time to keep on moving forward doing what brings me joy without worrying too much about the end goal.
lyrics
Verse 1
Oh I'm trying
Everyday
I am striving
To be the best I can be
But oh I know
There's a long way to go
Before I get there
Over the years
I kept changing
My mind, my wishes
When the panic kicked in
But these choices I've learned to embrace
They lead the way
Chorus
But oh oh oh
Same old, same old oh oh
The constant run
From a disposition
I cannot command
I cannot command
And the fall is what I call it
Verse 2
Like a fallen leaf
I'm swept away
Unforgiving wind
I am made to stray
But all it takes
Just a little grace
To learn to give myself
I've got to trust the pace
Chorus
But oh oh oh
Same old, same old oh oh
The constant run
From a disposition
I cannot command
I cannot command
And the fall is what I call it
The fall is what I call it
I'm running
Free falling
Bridge
But these feelings of mine
Are always intertwined
I must confess oh
I am restless oh
But these feelings of mine
Are always intertwined
I must confess oh
I am restless oh
I am the only one responsible
(Got to trust the pace)
The only one responsible
(I know I'll get there)
The only one responsible
(Give myself a little grace)
The only one to... (x2)
End chorus
Oh oh oh
…to break the norm oh oh
And put an end to a disposition
I can understand
I can understand
And let go of for my sake
And let go of for my sake (x3)
